There's no need to guess when you do a soil test!
Garden Soil Testing
The health of all plants ultimately begins in the soil.
All living plants require a balance of Macro and Micro nutrients.
Macro nutrients include the three major ones, Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) but also include others such as calcium (Ca), sulphur (S), magnesium (Mg), carbon (C), oxygen (O) and hydrogen (H). Macro Nutrients are generally required in higher doses and when plants are lacking in these Macro Nutrients they simply can not grow healthy or perform at their best.
Plant also require Micro Nutrients, these are required in much smaller doses by the plant and include, iron (Fe), boron (B), chlorine (Cl), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), molybdenum (Mo) and nickel (Ni). Plants lacking in micro nutrients (or trace elements) will show various signs depending on the nutrient that's lacking but may include things such as yellow or pale looking leaves, distorted new growth, stunted growth and even die back just to name a few.

So if your plants are not performing even though you're doing all the right things or perhaps you would like to know the condition of your soil before you start to work on it, then booking a soil test is your next step.

We advise that soil testing should be conducted once a year and this allows you to plan your maintenance effectively throughout the season knowing you are not wasting money on products that are not required.
